Lee Joon Gi And IU Discuss The Chances Of A Second Season Of Their Drama “Scarlet Heart Goryeo”

Could our prayers be answered? – Lee Joon Gi and IU recently discussed the possibility of a second season of their popular 2016 drama “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”!

On April 17, Lee Joon Gi held a special Naver NOW show titled “DREAM” in celebration of his birthday. With the congratulations pouring in, his “Moon Lovers” co-star IU surprised him with a phone call and the two actors talked at length about their friendship and “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo”.

It Is every Korean drama lover’s prayer that a season 2 be made for “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” ( I think some know it as “Moon Lovers”?). As far as I am concerned, the matter has never been addressed by the cast or production team of the drama so this is news.

“Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” is the love story of Hae Soo (played by IU), a modern woman who finds herself in the Goryeo Dynasty where she gets entangled with Goryeo’s feared fourth prince Wang So (Lee Joon Gi) and the numerous princes. The drama boasted quite an impressive cast line-up of Kang Ha Neul, EXO’s Baekhyun, Nam Joo Hyuk and many others.

During their discussion, Lee Joon Gi addressed questions he often received from fans which was always asking when and if there will be a season two of “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” where hopefully, Wang So and Hae Soo reunite and get their happy ending.

Lee Joon Gi shared that the chances of a season two happening were low if the matter was to be addressed realistically. He then asked IU if she would like to appear in the drama if a second season were to be produced.

IU while expressing her appreciation for the drama answered, “I think all of us who filmed the drama probably feel the same way. We had such a great time filming it, and even now, so many people love the drama. Isn’t that amazing?”

Lee Joon Gi continued, “Honestly, we never imagined that there would belatedly be so many people all around the world who love it.”

Remaining on the optimistic side, IU added, “If the conditions are right for us to all gather together, there is no reason not to do it.”

She also drew attention to the facts that most of the actors who had starred in the drama were at different places in their lives, with many working on other projects. “But if you’re asking me about my opinion only, there is no reason to not do it,” she stated. “I was afraid you’d say, ‘Why should I?’” Lee Joon Gi joked.

Though IU is correct when she reminds us that the cast of “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” are in different places in life right now. We, Korean drama fans will interpret her optimistic words to mean “It’s not entirely not possible.”

The two actors also talked about “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” unreleased final scene which was filmed but not aired due to certain change of plans. Lee Joon Hi praised IU’s acting skills, revealing that her acting drove him to tears, “Our actor Lee Ji Eun (IU) showed the most amazing emotional acting that day. I wondered how someone could cry so sorrowfully. Even now, I cry when I see your emotional acting in that scene.”

IU responded, “I do feel sad that we couldn’t show fans the scene where Wang So and Hae Soo meet, but your visuals were also amazing. In the modern-day scene, where you have short hair and are dressed in a suit. Your visuals in that scene where you handed me a handkerchief—it was really a shame that it didn’t make it on TV. Your fans would have gone wild if that had aired.”

In other news, Lee Joon Gi has been nominated in the Best Actor category for the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards and IU made her comeback last month with her fifth full album “LILAC.”

So we continue waiting for season 2 while wishing Lee Joon Gi a happy belated birthday!!
